Mayor Lamar A. Hernandez-Thorpe is a proud resident and 41st Mayor of the City of Antioch. Elected in 2020, he made history by earning the highest number of votes of any mayor in the city's 150-year history. Between 2016 and 2020, Mayor Hernandez-Thorpe served the city as vice mayor and council member-at-large.

Hernandez-Thorpe is the second African American and first Afro-Mexican to serve as mayor. He is a veteran of the United States Navy and a graduate of The George Washington University. 

​

In his role, Mayor Hernandez-Thorpe serves on several other governing board agencies. He's a member of the Contra Costa Mayor's Conference serving as a member of the executive committee and chair of the City Selection Committee.

 

Mayor Hernandez-Thorpe serves on transportation and infrastructure agencies that deal with Eastern Contra Costa County's growing needs. Currently, he is chair of the Tri Delta Transit Board of Directors, Eastern Contra Costa County's regional transit bus agency.

He also serves as a representative on the State Route HWY-4 Bypass Authority, East Contra Costa Regional Fee and Financing Authority, and the East County Transportation Planning Committee (TRANSPLAN), which coordinates the regional transportation needs of Eastern Contra Costa County.

 

Mayor Hernandez-Thorpe was selected to represent TRANSPLAN on the Contra Costa Transporation Authority, where he serves as chair of the agency's Administration and Projects Committee.

His agenda focuses on increasing Antioch's quality of life and raising its profile to match city residents.
