Mayor Lamar Thorpe announces proposal to incentivize police recruitment and hiring

On April 4, 2022, Mayor Lamar Thorpe announced new proposals to incentive police recruitment and hiring for the City of Antioch as well as a proposal to over-hire police officers to 125 to maintain the authorized 115 level.

The proposed measure is as follows:


For lateral recruits- a $40,000.00 structured signing bonus that’s paid out over a period of 3 years.

  • The first $20,000.00 tranche comes upon signing on with the Antioch Police Department;

  • The second $10,000.00 tranche comes upon completion of the officer’s 1-year probationary period; and

  • The third $10,000.00 tranche comes upon completing year 3 at APD.


For Academy recruits- a $40,000.00 structured signing bonus that’s paid out over a period of 3 years.

  • First $20,000.00 tranche comes upon signing on with the Antioch Police Department;

  • Second $10,000.00 tranche comes upon completion of the officer’s 1 year probationary period; and

  • Third $10,000.00 tranche comes upon completing year 3 at APD.

OR

  • $60,000.00 down payment assistance towards a home in Antioch.
